New Poll Shows Clinton And Obama Tied In Texas
Democratic Turnout Predicted To Double Republican Turnout
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
With one day to go before the Texas Democratic primary, a new poll
conducted for CBS 11 News and KRLD 1080 shows that Hillary Clinton and Barack
Obama are tied.
The survey, released Monday, shows that Obama leads Clinton among
Texas voters by six-tenths of one point.
Given the poll's 3.5% margin of error, that's a tie.
This is the third poll we have released in the last two
weeks.
In the first, Senator Clinton led
by five points.
In the second, released
last week, Senator Obama led by four points.
SurveyUSA conducted all three polls for us.
The newest one was done on March 1 and
2.
They talked to 840 people who said
they have already voted or are likely to vote.
Of those who say they have already voted, Clinton leads
Obama 50% to 48%.
Clinton made a big gain among voters aged 35-49.
She trailed by 18 points last week, but is
tied today.
Obama leads among black voters, 79% to 18%, but trails with
Hispanic voters, where Clinton leads 64% to 33%.
It's a close contest among white voters, with Clinton
leading 50% to 46%.

On the Republican side, John McCain is still ahead of Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. McCain has 53%, Huckabee 36%, and Paul has 5%.
The pollsters talked to 466 actual and likely voters, and the Republican poll has a 4.6% margin of error. For the full results,

The poll also shows that Democratic turnout for the primary will be nearly double the Republican turnout. That's in a state with roughly equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats, according to SurveyUSA.
