Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Kills Boyd Pastor, Wife
BOYD (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The 73-year-old pastor of a Baptist church in Boyd and his wife died of carbon monoxide poisoning after a car was left running in their garage.
Robert and Jerry Worley were at home at the time.
Boyd police say they got a call Sunday afternoon from someone at Trinity Baptist Church after the Worleys did not show up for the evening service.
Police say when they arrived, officers heard a running car in the garage and smelled car exhaust.
Officers found the couple in the house and took both to Wise Regional Hospital in Decatur. Robert Worley died at that hospital, and doctors transferred his wife to Harris Methodist. She died early Monday afternoon.
Sharon Chapman, a family friend and church member who made the initial 911 call, says Jerry Worley had a brain tumor that apparently affected her cognitive abilities. Chapman says she had left her car running in the garage on previous occasions.
