DPD: Woman Fakes Carjacking To Get Faster Response
False Report Lands Woman In Jail
(CBS 11 News)
For the second time in less than a week, Dallas police say citizens have called police and said their child was in the vehicle when it was stolen.
A Dallas woman faces charges today after telling police her child was in the back seat when the family vehicle was carjacked.
According to reports, Dallas police received a call about a stolen car about midnight. After no one arrived to investigate, police received another call from a woman who said her baby was inside the vehicle.
With Air One and ground patrols, police found the car near Fair Park, but there was no child inside.
The woman later admitted she lied about the baby being in the vehicle and the carjacking just to get the police on the case faster, authorities said.
The woman was arrested and faces charges for filing the false arrest.
Last week's incident resulted in an arrest of three suspected carjackers. Although police discovered weapons in the getaway vehicle, they later said the victims also lied about a child being in the car when it was stolen.
