Neighbors Fear Dallas Cat Killer Is Back At Work

Celia Orr's cat, Baby Bobby, was found mutilated.

A northeast Dallas neighborhood is worried that a cat killer is back on the prowl.
During the summer of 2008 half-a-dozen family pets were mutilated in the University Meadows area. Now neighbors are worried the cat killer has returned.
"It was horrible; a pretty gruesome scene," recalled Celia Orr, whose cat was killed.
As part of the Kittico Cat Rescue group, Orr says she's see violence against animals. But this time the attack was personal, with her 8-year-old long-haired tabby named "Baby Bobby" found dead Sunday morning.
"So I rushed over there and found him on the lawn and he had been either cut in half or he was… he was… two body parts," Orr said of her discovery.
The idea of the mutilation was too much for Orr's husband, David. "I couldn't face it myself. I was chicken and stayed at home. That kind of stuff is very disturbing to me" he said.
Even more disturbing, because neighbors thought they'd seen the last of troubling cat mutilations. One year ago, almost to the day, the lady that lives diagonally across the street from Orr had her cat mutilated. In that crime, the 7-year-old cat named 'Lucy' had her stomach was slit and was gutted.
Lucy was among half-a-dozen cats mutilated that way within a few weeks. In 2008, CBS 11 News spoke with Martha Wertheimer about the mutilations. "And noticed that it was slit from the neck down between the legs, a very precise cut," she said.
Today, Celia Orr gathers the last of Baby Bobby's fur in the yard where his body was found. Baby Bobby was semi-feral, but neutered, so he was allowed to roam the neighborhood.
Amy Loukas' 3-year-old son reportedly the only human that Baby Bobby let touch him and she can't bear to tell him the cat is gone. "It's horrible. I mean, I don't know who could've done that," the mother said.
Orr has filed a complaint with Dallas Animal Services. "I'm furious, because we went through this in this neighborhood last year, and it looks like its starting up again," she said.
Orr told CBS 11 News that she is also preparing to file a report with the Dallas Police Department.
