Cedar Hill Names New Assistant Police Chief
Arlington PD Veteran Selected Over Southlake's Ex-Chief Goolsby
(CBS 11 / TXA 21)
A 23-year police veteran from Arlington beat out Wade Goolsby, the former Southlake Police chief, for a newly-created Assistant Police Chief position in Cedar Hill.
Lt. Rodney Thompson was selected from a pool of in-state and out-of-state applicants, including Goolsby who resigned in late May amidst accusations by several officers he interfered with investigations and showed preferential treatment to influential Southlake residents.
"Thompson is a standout candidate because of his established record and ability to build relationships within the department and with members of the community. His performance indicates that Chief Thompson is going to be very successful in Cedar Hill," Cedar Hill Police Chief Steve Rhodes said in a release.
During his Arlington tenure, Thompson commanded the southwest sector of the city, which includes the Parks Mall.
Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University.
Thompson is expected to begin the new post on Aug. 4.
At the time of his resignation, the city said they would keep Goolsby on the payroll at his $121,400 annual salary -- until July so he can oversee construction of the city's new public safety building, which he helped design.
