Lake Worth PD Makes 'Strawberry Quik' Meth Bust
by Mark Johnson
LAKE WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
An observant Lake Worth patrol officer made one of the largest methamphetamine busts in recent memory.
More than 400 grams of "Strawberry Quick" meth were recovered.
Here's how it happened.
Early Tuesday morning the officer noticed a 1995 Pontiac Firebird parked at local drive-in restaurant. The officer became suspicious and made contact with the man inside the car.
Ronnie Smith, 45, of Jacksboro told the officer he had too much to drink and was "sleeping it off." The officer noticed open containers of alcohol in the car and asked the man to step outside.
Smith had marijuana in his pocket, so the officer called for back-up and searched Smith's car. Inside officers found $1,800 in cash, dozens of prescription pills and the 400-grams of meth.
Police say "Strawberry Meth" is becoming popular with young students.
Smith is being held in the Lake Worth jail on felony drug charges. If convicted he could face a minimum of five years in jail because he has previous felony drug convictions.
