Crooks Burglarize S. Oak Cliff Churches
by Clif Caldwell
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Two South Oak Cliff churches were burglarized overnight.
The Inspiring Body of Christ Church in the 7700 block of south Westmoreland, better known by the acronym IBOC, was broken into at approximately 3:30 Wednesday morning.
The thieves broke into the building by throwing a rock through a glass door. Once inside, they took an amplifier for a bass guitar
Church organizers say their security cameras show the thief was in the building for less than two minutes.
In all, they say he did about $2500 worth of damage.
Then, about an hour later, nearby Friendship West Baptist Church on Wheatland Road was burglarized.
That church's security tapes show the thief crawling through a broken window and a door and leaving with an electronic keyboard. He then opens a door and returns for a second keyboard.
The police report says Friendship West's missing instruments are worth $2,000 each.
Leaders at both churches expressed their frustration at the thefts.
Pastor Freddie Haynes of Friendship West says he sees the crime as a sign that he needs to expand his ministry to help more people in the community find crime-free ways to make a living.
