Swingers Club Offers Another Compromise To City
DUNCANVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Monday, the swingers club known as the Cherry Pit offered another olive branch to the City of Duncanville.
The city has maintained that by accepting donations, the Cherry Pit is in fact a business and a sex club. Owners of the club removed from its website any and all words encouraging guests to make donations to pay for parties.
"Our position is that we want to work with the City of Duncanville to try to resolve this. We want to be good neighbors," said attorney Edward Klein.
Attorneys for the Cherry Pit say they are also considering reducing the number of guests who attend the parties.
Over the weekend, the swingers club was cited for violating three city ordinances:
1. Illegally operating a business in a residential area
2. Running a sexually oriented business in a residential area
3. Operating an illegal sex club
On November 7, the Duncanville City Council voted to put an end to private sex parties.
Supporters of the Cherry Pit say they aren't taking the new rules lying down. Attorneys for the Cherry Pit say the club is legal and plan on challenging the citations in court.
The ordinance shuts down sex clubs that advertise and attract large crowds that become neighborhood nuisances. The Cherry Pit operates in a private house in a residential neighborhood of Duncanville.
The new ordinance could go into effect in less than a week.
Meanwhile, the owners of the house say the weekend parties will continue to take place. Attorneys for the Cherry Pit have told its members that there is no risk for them attending these parties.
