Plano Projects Halted When Construction Co. Closes

Arezow Doost
PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A North Texas construction company shuts down and leaves a number of unfinished projects in Plano. Hisaw & Associates won the bid to build a number of city projects - including a new fire station and a new emergency operations center.

Despite the closure officials with the city say while the projects won't be completed as scheduled, the delay won't cost taxpayers any more money.

Just a few months away from opening, construction at Plano Fire Station #12 is halted. Alan Upchurch, with the City of Plano, explained his surprise to learn the company had shut down. "We sent some people out to check on them and see how the project was going and the gates were pretty well locked up and their offices are pretty well shut down."

Hisaw & Associates notified Plano last week that they were shutting down. In addition to the fire station and operations center, the company had also won the bid to expand the Plano Animal Shelter and add a storage facility to the Plano Civic Center.

CBS 11 News went by the Hisaw & Associates office in Carrollton. While no one answered the door or phone we did find the back doors open. Reporter Arezow Doost asked, "Is there someone I could speak with?" A man responded, "There is nobody here with Hisaw right now," and shut the door.

Within minutes of CBS 11 News cameras arriving, several pickup trucks that had been parked in back of the business were gone.

Even City of Plano officials have had a tough time getting a hold of the company. "We have tried their phones, we've sent 'em emails, we've sent them certified letters," explained Upchurch. "We have not been able to get a hold of them."

Plano officials are now looking for a new company to take over the unfinished construction projects. Combined, the price tag for the three projects is in the millions of dollars.
