Cockrell Hill Residents Protesting Beer Barn Babes

COCKRELL HILL (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Some Cockrell Hill residents took to their streets Saturday to protest the way some drive through beer barns use scantilly-clad women to sell their products.

The city, in the center of Dallas' Oak Cliff area, is the only place between downtown Dallas and Duncanville where the public sale of liquor is approved.

The In & Out beer barn is one of the locations protested. The store employs young ladies called "beer babes" to sell alcohol in clothes that could hardly be called modest.  It's on a route where kids walk to a nearby elementary school. Parents of some of the students want their kids to see a lot less skin.

Paul Lemus was among some 30-people who trekked from the school to two locations where beer babes hawk their drive-through alcohol.

"We're not asking for you to shut down, all we're asking for is to dress more appropriately."

There are about eight locations in Cockrell Hill that sell beer and wine, and there are two package liquor stores. Neighbors say In & Out and neaby Ricky's were on best behavior saturday.

Chris cleveland manages the In & Out and admits there have been what he calls "growing pains." But, he insists he's listened to criticism and is willing the change.
Cleveland points out his workers are no different from car hops on roller skates and short-shorts as far back as the 1950's.
