Co-workers say Fort Worth firefighter Ron Huddleston is usually easy going but not an easy target. Huddleston and his wife fought back and killed an attacked during a home invasion Saturday night.
The Tarrant County sheriff said the home invader entered through an unlocked door at the couple's home on West Fork Trail near Eagle Mountain Lake.
" The guy definitely picked the wrong house," one of Huddleston's co-workers said.
Sheriff Dee Anderson said the homeowners fought back with several things when the gun- , pipe- and claw hammer-wielding stranger showed-up in their living room and demanded money.
"It looks like a large flower pot, lamp has blood on It. The crime scene is very bloody inside.
The female got a knife out of the kitchen and it was used on the suspect, as well," Anderson said.
Ron Huddleston was still struggling with the man when Tarrant County deputies arrived. The suspect died as deputies tried to handcuff him.
The Huddlestons did what they had to do. Friends say, that's just the way they are.
"He's very athletic. He works out every day. Personality wise, he and his wife are not the kind to let anyone run over them and get their way. It's not in their personality. Not in their gene pool," fellow Fort Worth firefighter Wes Sheffield said.
The sheriff says the suspect got in through an unlocked door at the couple's home. Investigators are looking into how the Huddleston home was chosen, and how the suspect got there. Deputies did not find the suspect's vehicle in the area.
Both residents were treated for cuts and bruises. Ron Huddleston also had a broken arm. Both were released from the hospital.
Officials said no charges are expected.
