Dallas Cowboys Take Home Favorite Team Title For 3rd Straight Year

Two and two to kick off a much-hyped season in a new stadium. Criticism about the head coach and star quarterback. No playoff wins in more than a decade. These may be dark times for Dallas Cowboys fans, but don't tell that to the rest of the United States.
The Harris Poll released today has anointed the Dallas Cowboys as America's favorite football team. It's a title the franchise can claim for a third straight year.
The Pittsburgh Steelers finished second in the survey conducted last month and online by Harris Interactive. The Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots round out the top 5.
The Houston Texans continued their steady improvement in the poll. This year, the team finished 23rd in the survey. Houston had bottomed out at 31st place in the 2006 survey.
But it's the Cowboys that continues to capture the hearts and imagination of football fans. Since 1998, the team has finished 1st six times. The worst year was 2002 when the Cowboys finished 4th (the Packers took home favorite team honors that year).
If the Cowboys are the nation's favorite football team, the love stops there. When participants were asked to pick the team they think will win the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys weren't number one. They didn't crack the top three.
Pittsburgh took home top honors this year for the Super Bowl pick with 19% of the support. New England finished second with 17% of the vote. Indianapolis came in third with 7%. And the Cowboys finished fourth with 6%.
So, take heart Cowboys fans. The season is only a quarter of the way done. The playoffs and a Super Bowl berth are still a possibility. But the Dallas Cowboys can take home a moral victory, the Silver and Blue are still popular among Americans.
