Dallas County Deputy's Gear Stolen

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A Dallas County Sheriff's deputy became a crime victim on Sunday, and the crime has generated a statewide alert.

Michael Bellard's gun, handcuffs and uniforms were stolen from his South Dallas home.

Monday he was repairing the door that the thieves kicked in.

His house sits across the street from a Dallas public housing development known as Turner Courts.

On Sunday, while his mother attended church, someone stole Bellard's law enforcement gear.  He thinks the crooks were specifically going after it.

"It looked like it was specifically aimed at law enforcement equipment.  My uniforms are missing also, so it looked like a specific hit."

Uniformed Dallas County Deputies not only work the streets, they work the jail as well.

A statewide alert has been issued regarding this theft.  Authorities are particularly concerned that everything Michael Bellard uses to protect and serve could be used by someone else to target and victimize.
