SPCA Employees, Animals Safe After Explosion

by Steve Pickett
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― When a building in downtown Dallas exploded Wednesday morning, the building housing the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals felt the blasts immediately.

Officials from the organization were concerned with finding a safe place for employees and the animals. However, they did not evacuate the location immediately.

"The staff reacted by trying to move as many animals from the southern portion of our property to the northern portion of the property because the explosions were coming from the southerly direction," a SPCA spokesperson said. "Right after that, we were able to get the Dallas Police Department to show up and say that we need to evacuate all of our people from our facility."

Everyone inside the building, including its canine and feline residents, was able to make it safely out of the area.
