Big Plans Taking Flight At Love Field

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Big plans for the future are taking flight at Dallas Love Field Airport. It's all part of the agreement to end flight restrictions known as the Wright Amendment.

Much of Dallas Love Field Airport will be all new by the end of 2014. They will knock down the existing three concourses and build a new one. The number of gates will be reduced from 32 to 20.

The terminal will also be renovated, and the curbside check-in and baggage claim areas will be expanded.

The total cost for renovation will be nearly $600 million; that's about triple the amount first planned.

But tax payers can breathe a sigh of relief. The airlines stationed at Love Field will pick up the tab. The airlines will pay through higher landing fees and rental fees for terminal and other space.

Southwest insists it will not raise fares to pay for the improvements.
