DPD Auto Pound Worker Arrested For Vehicle Theft
by J.D. Miles
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
An employee of the Dallas Police Auto Pound has been arrested for stealing from vehicles.
Claudio Pinedo, 32, is charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle.
The investigation began Monday when supervisors noticed several vehicles had been burglarized. Those officers escort citizens to pickup property out of vehicles.
All temporary employees of the auto pound were asked if they would consent to a search of their personal vehicles.
Two car stereos were found in Pinedo's front seat and he was arrested.
Police credit a civilian employee for noticing the car break-ins and prompting the search.
"I just cannot say enough good things about this individual because they were alert attentive and immediately brought it to proper attention," said Lt. Kenneth Seguin, Dallas Police Department.
Police say Pinedo may be responsible for other thefts inside the secure lot.
The police department recently installed video cameras and more lights to combat a rash of burglaries.
