Dallas Police Investigate 2 Separate Sex Attacks
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Dallas police are warning citizens to be on the lookout after two violent sexual assaults in North Dallas. Police say that the two unrelated attacks were crimes of opportunity. The attacks happened just miles apart, but police say they are not related.
The first assault happened at 3 a.m. Sunday near an apartment complex on Maham Road. Dallas police said the suspect approached the victim in a parking lot.
"He had a knife, put it to her throat and began dragging her to a wooded area, out of sight from passing vehicles," said Dallas Police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse.
Police said the suspect punched the woman in the face before he ran away.
"At three in the morning, there are not a lot of people out at that hour, so we're kind of at a dead end when it comes to witnesses, except for the victim herself," said Sr. Cpl. Janse.
The second assault happened at 5 a.m. at an apartment complex on Stone Canyon Road.
Police said a woman was coming home from work when the suspect approached her in the parking lot.
"He originally asked for a cigarette," said Sr. Cpl. Janse. "At that point, the suspect pulled a gun out of his waistband and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint."
Neighbors said they have heard of burglaries and robberies in the area, but never an assault like this.
Police said since this happened so early, there were no other witnesses around, so they don't have very detailed suspect descriptions.
