Groups Argue Over Proposed Smoking Bans In Dallas

DALLAS (AP) ― MyRightsTexas.org will have a news conference Tuesday to protest any possible changes to Dallas' current smoking ordinance.

City leaders have said changes could include a comprehensive plan that eliminates smoking in indoor public places -- including restaurants, restaurant bars and stand alone bars - and work places.

Dallas' current ordinance passed in January 2003 does not include free-standing bars.

My Rights Texas representatives said they are armed with an April 2008  survey that shows a majority of Dallas citizens are satisfied with the current ordinance.

Smoke Free Dallas, however,  said they found 67 percent  of Dallas voters support a change to the current ordinance.

City council has not approved or vetoed any changes.
