Less than 24 hours after his wife was sent to prison for her lover's death, Darrell Roberson is talking about the case.
He said he stands by his convicted wife, and says her only mistake was having an affair. He also said he still stands by his decision to protect her.
Monday night a Tarrant County jury sentenced Tracy Roberson to five years in prison. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the Oct 2006 shooting death of Deven LaSalle.
A grand jury failed to indict Darrell, even though he shot and killed LaSalle.
"When I heard my wife screaming rape, and he was trying to leave at the same time with her, I had no choice but to do what I did," he said. "If I had to do it over again, I would do the same thing."
However, on the witness stand, Tracy testified she and LaSalle screamed when Darrell approached LaSalle's truck with a gun. But she never yelled rape while in the truck.
"I didn't hear Tracy's testimony. I haven't heard of as of today, I still haven't heard it. I'm telling you what happened that night."
He said in this case, everyone lost. He said every night he and his family pray for his wife and for LaSalle's family.
"I'm very sorry for all of this. We've been through Hell," Darrell said. "My heart goes out to them. My heart goes out to my wife. My heart goes out to my children and everybody else that is affected by this.
Roberson said he and his family plan to appeal.
"We're going to keep praising God," he said. "He didn't bring us this far to let us down."
