Trial Delayed For Defendant In City Hall Scandal

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A judge has decided to delay the trial of one of the 16 defendants in the Dallas City Hall scandal case.

Darren Reagan was scheduled to be in court Monday on charges that he allegedly stealing nearly $42,000 in federal housing payments.

He initially failed to show up for the start of his trial Monday. But U.S. Marshals arrested Reagan at his home and escorted him to court.

Reagan told Judge Barbara Lynn he has diabetes and said his blood sugar level rose abnormally high yesterday, which forced him to go to the hospital for several hours. He was able to return home Sunday night.

Reagan said he did not show up to court Monday because he was going back to the hospital. He asked the judge to delay the trial because he was too sick.

By 6 p.m. Monday evening, Judge Lynn reportedly received enough information from his doctor to satisfy her decision to delay the trial until June 10.

It was last Friday when Reagan asked the judge to delay his trial because he wasn't satisfied with his attorney.

After the court appearance, Reagan ran from CBS 11 reporter Jack Fink when he tried to ask Reagan questions about the trial.

Reagan pled not guilty last fall to extortion charges in a low-income housing scandal at Dallas City Hall.

His friend and colleague, Allen McGill, pled guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion in the case and will now testify against Reagan and others.

All 14 defendants in the main extortion case will go to trial next January.
