Investigation Comes After Death At Denton Daycare
DENTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
An investigation is underway after a four month old baby dies at an in-home daycare center. The child died Wednesday in the 2200 block of Palomino Court in Denton. Officials with Child Protective Services said when they arrived at the scene they found too many children inside the home.
Mother Sara Conn was quick to defend the Too Kool 4 School Kids Club Daycare. "I mean, my daughter can't be in a better place. They've taken super care of our kids. They're very loving people and at all times there's three to four teachers with our kids."
The four month old little girl died while at the state licensed in-home daycare. While foul play isn't suspected, CPS closed the center due to overcrowding. Too Kool 4 School allegedly had more than twice the number of children it was approved to care for.
"Home daycares are typically licensed to care for up to 12 children and in this daycare we found as many as 30 children being cared for in that home," said CPS Spokesperson Marissa Gonzalez.
Neighbors told CBS 11 News that there are several in-home daycares in the neighborhood and CPS is investigating the possibility that kids were being shuffled around.
"There's another operation that's very close to this one and we did hear that from time to time, they were shuffling kids back and forth between the two locations," explained Gonzalez. "We don't know if that's the case, but we're certainly looking into it."
A Denton police spokesman said a child care worker went to pick up the four month old and noticed the baby was limp and not breathing. The cause of death for the little girl hasn't been determined.
