Another Taste Of Winter For North Texas
Grab Your Jackets As Winds Turn To The North
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A strong cold front plowed through North Texas around 7am Thursday morning. Without any moisture to work with, the front didn't bring any rain or clouds, just an abrupt wind shift.
Expect north winds the remainder of the afternoon between 15-25mph with higher gusts to 30 mph and temperatures not raising much above 60 degrees, then quickly falling as sunset approaches.
Tonight much of North Texas will see lows below freezing, and locations north of the metro area could easily see lows in the mid to upper 20s.
Most of our colder nights occur when winds are light and skies are clear, but tonight, it stays breezy and the air mass flowing into the region is cold enough on it's own to guarantee a freeze for many. The exception being the immediate metro area where we expect lows in the 32-35 range.
So remember to turn off your sprinklers and be sure you cover patio plants that can't take the cold, and don't forget your outdoor pets. Give them a warm place to sleep and plenty of water.
Friday stays very chilly. There will be a few more clouds and with a polar air mass in place, we'll be doing well to see high temperatures climb into the mid 50's. But winds do relax through the afternoon as they gradually shift to the southeast.
Friday night will still be quite cold. Low temperatures will depend on cloud cover. The more clouds, the warmer it will be. Right now, we expect lows to still fall into the upper 30's.
This weekend will be partly to mostly cloudy. Saturday will be breezy and still very cool. Highs only in the upper 50s, but Sunday does look warmer as south winds continue ahead of the next front and weak disturbance that could bring us a few showers by Sunday afternoon and evening.
Sunday's highs approach 70.
As we get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday we'll be keeping close tabs on the forecast and keep you posted on any big weather changes that might occur, as folks prepare to travel to their holiday destinations.
Right now, the early half of next weeks looks relatively quiet with highs slightly above average in the mid to upper 60's.
