DFW Airport is about to take a much closer look at its passengers. A new body scan screener is being put into place, but some say what it sees is too revealing.
The Transportation Security Administration is field-testing the body scan, which uses "Millimeter Wave Technology." The new technology is designed to detect weapons and explosives.
The machine creates a 3-D image of the passenger's body and allows screeners to see the entire image of the person's body.
The scanner is supposed to speed things up and eliminate passengers' concerns about screeners invading their privacy. But the scanning machines also reveal the passengers' private parts.
The TSA has taken passengers' privacy into consideration. The screeners cannot see the travelers' faces, and the scan is sent to a private viewing station in another room. The images are not stored, and passengers aren't forced to go in them. They can choose the traditional pat down procedure. The machines are used as a secondary check.
