Former DISD Execs Charged With Bribery & More
by Steve Pickett
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Two former Dallas Independent School District executives and a Houston businessman are facing federal charges of bribery, money laundering, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice.
The 16-count indictment names the district's former technology chief, 59-year-old Ruben B. Bohuchot, and a former deputy superintendent and chief operating officer, 52-year-old William Frederick Coleman III. Also named was Houston businessman Frankie Logyang Wong.
Bohuchot and Wong surrendered to federal authorities Tuesday morning. The feds say they expect Coleman to surrender later in the day.
The indictment says beginning in 2002, Bohuchot was rigging DISD contracts to favor Wong's Micro Systems Engineering Incorporated in exchange for kickbacks. Those kickbacks included the use of a yacht in Key West. Coleman alleged served as the middle man.
The feds say they've seized the yacht and are trying to seize about 40 (M) million dollars in ill-gotten proceeds.
Bohuchot was the DISD's Chief Technology Officer from September 1999 until February 2006, when he resigned.
Coleman worked for the DISD from August 1999 until September 2000. Until March of this year, he was the superintendent of Detroit Public Schools.
