Man Enjoys 1st Holiday Since Wrongful Imprisonment
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
Eugene Henton was sentenced to 60 years in prison for dealing drugs and sexual assault.
In October of 2007, after serving 13 years of his sentence, he was cleared of the crime through DNA evidence.
"Being that I can't control it, then there's no need to be bitter, angry, worried or any of that about it," he said.
This Christmas was his first back at home.
"We all are happy that he's home. It makes the whole Christmas experience and everything wonderful," said his mother, JoAnn Henton. "He the same old Eugene, older, mature, but basically the same Eugene."
JoAnn made Henton's favorite foods for Christmas dinner.
"Ain't nobody gonna eat it but him," said his mother about the chocolate cake she made.
Once the holidays play out, Henton said he will look for work as a salesman.
"Hopefully I can sell a few suits. That would be great," he said.
Convicted felons typically have trouble finding jobs, but the Innocence Project, which helped with Henton's release, will help with that too.
