Arlington PD Make Arrest In Dog Burning Death
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A local family says their dog 'Spike' was definitely not the fierce animal that his name implied. Spike was a tiny, playful ball of fluff and the light of one South Arlington family's lives. Then, police say, someone committed a cruel and vicious crime.
On Saturday, Arlington police were called to the 1000 block of W. Turner Warnell where they found Spikes charred body in a drainage basin next to Summit High School.
"It was shock and disbelief about what happened and then the sadness," Ronnie Villaire, owner of dog.
Villaire told Arlington police he and his family were unaware that Spike was missing. The family has two other dogs and a cat.
Apparently the 3 1/2year-old purebred Pomeranian somehow escaped from the backyard. Police officers located a tag on the dog's collar and informed the Villaire family Saturday morning.
"When I saw the charred outline of where his body was, it was just gut-wrenching, sickening," says Villaire. 'I couldn't imagine someone doing that to a defenseless little dog."
Villaire says time will heal the wounds of the emotional loss, but he has bigger concerns. "Whoever did something like this needs help. This could lead to bigger and worse crimes," he said.
Police in Arlington have arrested 26-year-old Adam Pigue in connection with the crime. According to authorities, he claimed to have found the dog dead in his yard and burned the dog to dispose of the remains. He now faces four city violations.
