DPD Facilities Reopen After MRSA Scare

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The workout and locker rooms at the Dallas Police Department have reopened after they were closed Monday when officials were notified at least one officer was infected with the drug-resistant staph infection known as MRSA.

Police sealed off the showers and the weight room where the officer may have been --- although it was confirmed that's where the infection was contracted.

Officials say it will be several days before they find out the source of the potentially deadly disease.

Spokesmen said all areas were tested and subsequently cleaned "as precaution to ensure health and safety."

"At this time, there is no evidence that the workout room and locker room have been contaminated with MRSA Staph infection," officials said in a release.
