Dallas Police Department's Web Site Hacked

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― Officials confirm the Dallas Police Department's Web site has been hacked.

The first priority of department officials was to take the site off line and remove the disturbing text and images.

Official police business was replaced by a curse-filled rant. The message called Americans "stupid" and stated that our "society has rotted." The rant also references religious fanatics and school shootings.

The text was followed by a photo of President George Bush, Dick Cheney, Condolezza Rice and John McCain being lined up by allied forces.

The hackers identify themselves as s2rangers from Russia.

A spokesperson for the Dallas police said the department is baffled by all of this.

"The police technology [unit] will investigate and attempt to determine what occurred and who committed the offense," Dallas Police Lt. Vernon Hale stated in a press release. "They will also attempt to install technological solutions to prevent this from occurring again. My understanding is that no internal police data has been affected."

Hale also said the department had not determined how long the site would be offline.  As of 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, it was still down.

The Web site was created a few years ago by the department to pass along public safety notices and general information.
