Customer With No Cash For Cab Shoots At Driver
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Cab driver Samuel Ohno pulled out of his regular spot in the West End, when a man outside a restaurant asked for a ride. The 64-year-old was just about to call it a night.
"It was going to be the last fare I had before I headed home," Ohno said. "I wasn't doing anything to this guy except that I was trying to help him. It was cold."
But the customer had no money when they reached his apartment at Central Expressway and Park Lane.
Ohno says he was willing to overlook the unpaid fare and head home after letting the man out. But then gunshots rang out and pierced through the headrest in the yellow taxi.
"I was scared when I realized that I could have gotten killed," he said.
Ohno's vehicle was badly damaged. The 24-year-veteran driver hopes the public and police will help him catch the man who fired the shots that left him shaken and reluctant to get back behind the wheel anytime soon.
"I'm going to be a little careful when I pick up people," he said.
