1 Dead After Suspected DUI Wreck In Arlington
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
He had dreams of becoming a Hollywood movie director. But a suspected drunk driver killed Joshua Carter in Arlington on January 11th and left another young man fighting for his life.
On Monday, the woman who is accused of being intoxicated and causing the fatal crash was in the hospital, just rooms away from the surviving victim, 21-year-old Matthew Lundy.
A close friend of Matthew held his bible close as he prayed with the Lundy family. William Cheek and Matthew had been friends since they were three-years-old. William recalled the activities they participated in as children, "
play basketball, listen to music, go to church," he explained.
Sunday night Matthew was doing a favor for 21-year-old Josh Carter. He picked him up from his job as a waiter at Chili's in Arlington. That's when, police say, 30-year-old Erica Kolanowski was speeding, ran a red light near Green Oaks Blvd. and S. Cooper, and caused the fatal crash.
"We got a call about 1:20 last night," said Josh's stepfather, Jim Pierce. The call was from police, saying that Josh was dead. "She wants to go see her son and hold him I guess," said Pierce, talking about his wife. "But she's not gonna be able to do that until they transfer him the funeral home."
Josh's family and the Lundy family say they both want justice.
According to Arlington police, Kolanowski will likely be charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault when she is released from the hospital.
