Family Of Mom Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver Talks
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The family of a mother killed in Arlington wants people to know drunk driving destroys families.
According to police, Nogaelda Zavala's two children were with her Friday night when an alleged drunk driver struck her car.
Her 14-year-old daughter Ana was treated and released from the hospital. But 3-year-old Angel, who broke his leg, is still in the hospital.
So that is where the family has gathered to grieve.
"We're certain she's in the presence of the Lord," said Imelda Zaldivar, Zavala's sister. But that doesn't take away the pain. "She was my sister my friend."
Their older brother wants people to know one thing: "To be conscious that drinking and driving is not good."
It left Zavala's children without a mother.
"It was my sister's time, and He's going to bring us through this, and He's going to do to the other person according to His will," said Zaldivar.
The family remembers a woman who was always doing something for her family and her church.
"She always had a smile on her face, and we're going to miss that smile," said Zaldivar.
Brandon Burchfield, 17, has been charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault. His bond is set at $100,000.
While he sits in an Arlington jail, his passenger remains in the hospital in critical condition.
The Zavalas had no insurance, so a fund is being set up at Chase Bank for Angel's recovery.
