Small Quake Hits Ellis County Friday Night

WAXAHACHIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A late-night earthquake barley registered much beyond a notice in North Texas.

A magnitude 2.8 earthquake hit around 11:30 Friday night in the Ellis County community of Mountain Peak, south of Midlothian and west of Waxahachie.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake was 3.1 miles below the surface.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office said they had no reports of calls from residents saying they felt anything.

There have been no reports of damage.

Nearby Johnson County has seen its share of earthquakes over the past year.  A number of quakes registering in the 2.1-2.8 range hit over the summer.
