Ellis County Family Relieved With Cold Case Break

Selena Hernandez
WAXAHACHIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― For the past 15 years, an Ellis County family has sought answers in the deaths of their two loved ones. Now, after years of waiting in agony, it appears they're one step closer to justice.

"It doesn't feel like 15 years," Jennie Biggar said of the years she's spent in search of closure in her extended family members' death.

Photographs and memories are all the Biggar family has of their loved ones.

"When I think Kasey, I just...(sigh)," Biggar said in a somber voice as she flipped through an old photo album of happier days.

Little Kasey Roberts was just two years old when his lifeless body was found in his grandmother's car. It was parked in front of an apartment complex in Red Oak, over a decade ago. Police said he died of hypothermia and dehydration.

"He wasn't supposed to die, he was collateral damage."

Kasey's grandmother, Robbie Biggar, was found in a field by the old Super Collider facility near Waxahachie.  For 15 years, authorities searched for the suspects responsible.  In the past few weeks, a major break has developed, as Ellis County investigators have made two arrests in this case.

61-year old Larry Samples and 48-year old Galen Boyd are jailed, charged with capital murder. Investigators say Samples was always a prime suspect, and was eve arrested for forging Biggar's checks. We're told new information from witnesses Boyd confided in, helped lead investigators to both suspects.

"I was crying, I just couldn't believe that finally somebody heard us."

It's a development that helps bring a family some emotional resolution, yet still desperate for justice.

"That little boy didn't deserve that and neither did Robbie, she sure didn't."
