Family Of Victim Involved In Fatal Accident Talks
Marianne Martinez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The family of a third victim in a deadly accident involving an alleged drunk driver is speaking out.
Erika Rosales was in the car Monday night with that alleged drunk driver. The 20-year-old is recovering from serious injuries she suffered in the wreck.
Rosales' family says she never met Uriel Palacios, the alleged drunk driver, before. But because she also was drunk, she got in his car and was severely injured.
"I am not the type of person to get angry," Elias Rosales, Erika's father, said. "I am just grateful my daughter is alive."
But for days, Elias didn't know if Erika would survive her injuries. Erika has broken and fractured bones all over her body, as well as some bleeding in her brain.
Her family doesn't know if she will make a full recovery. Up until this morning she was in a coma. She just started opening her eyes.
"My wife, my other children, myself -- we're all destroyed, but we have to be strong," he said.
Elias says he's also starting to learn more about what happened before Monday's accident that also took the lives of a young couple.
Elias says Erika was at a Dallas night club with friends. There she met Palacios for the first time. They danced and drank and she left with him.
"I want other teens to learn from this -- about the dangers of drinking," he said.
Elias also said he wants some answers to questions like why was Palacios on the streets after being convicted for two DWI's and arrested for two others.
Erika's family is grateful she is alive, and they offered their prayers to the family of the couple that was killed.
