Dallas Firefighter Faces Felony For Fake NFL Gear

Cuington, 2 Others Charged With Selling Fake NFL Gear Near Super Bowl

PHOENIX (AP) ― Prosecutors in Phoenix have charged a Dallas firefighter and two other Texas men with selling fake NFL merchandise on Super Bowl weekend in February.

Lt. Reginald L. Cuington, 44, of the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department was charged with one felony count of selling counterfeit merchandise. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office filed the same charges on Friday against 35-year-old Vincent Odum and 27-year-old Joe Jackson.

Cuington and fellow firefighter Charles Whitaker, 38, were shot while walking to their hotel room the same weekend in what police say was an unrelated and apparently random attack. Whitaker died of his wounds.

Police in suburban Glendale have said the four men sold unlicensed NFL jerseys for $100 apiece to an undercover police officer not far from the stadium where the game was held on Feb. 3.
