Man Thanks Local Officer Who Saved His Life

FARMERS BRANCH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A happy reunion Saturday evening following what could have been a tragedy in Farmers Branch.

A grateful homeowner got the chance to say a personal thank you to a police officer credited with saving him in his burning home.

Ed Jerome was fast asleep early Friday morning, never dreaming his house was on fire. But Farmers Branch Police Officer Travis Rose happened by on patrol and was able to wake him in time.

It was the first chance since the fire for Jerome and his next door neighbor Claire Erdman to talk to Officer Rose.

After waking Jerome from a sound sleep Rose, a former Marine and veteran from Iraq, went door-to-door to alert other sleeping residents of the potential danger until firefighters brought the blaze under control.

On Saturday the three talked about those first frantic seconds.

Rose says the smoke was already higher than his waist.  Firefighters told Ed Jerome that if he hadn't been awakened he would likely have died from smoke inhalation.
