Plane Crash Near Justin Kills 2

JUSTIN (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Investigators spent much of Saturday pouring over the vintage training aircraft that crashed several hundred yards shy of Propwash Airport. It's still unclear if they were trying to land or just out flying maneuvers.

"He was in a pattern with two other aircraft doing some formation flying," another pilot Mark Todd explained. "He was coming around to land number one out of three aircraft. It appears he was turning base to final and it appears he may have stalled it."

Airport workers report a brief "mayday" call just before the plane went nose down into the ground and emergency crews were called.

Lonny Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety said officials found two bodies inside the single engine aircraft that crashed just to the north of Farm to Market Road 407.

Both the pilot and passenger – sitting in tandem -- were killed, officials said.

Investigators will release the names of those after the pair's families have been notified.

Pilots at the airport near Justin, however, believe the plane is based out if Northwest Airport near Fort Worth.

The Chinese built version of the Russian training craft was built in 1965 and imported within the last few years. Records show it is owned by a company called Centrol in Roanoke.

The FAA won't speculate on the cause of the crash because the investigation is ongoing.
