New Year's Fireworks Not Allowed In All Counties

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The countdown to New Year's has North Texas fireworks sellers counting up the sales.

"We got some rockets and roman candles today," said Tony Williams as he walked away from a firework stand off FM 1187, south of Fort Worth.  "We've been shopping for the last three days."

Parents say their kids already see New Year's Eve as a 'fireworks night'.

"They've been looking forward to it for so long they've been calling it firecracker day for weeks," said Andrea Birmingham. "They say, 'Is it firecracker day yet?' "

But not everyone is so enthusiastic.  Fireworks possession in Fort Worth could earn up to a $1000 fine.

"We ain't worried about it," Williams said. "We're going to come out here and pop them.  We're going to come out to where its legal."

But because of dry weather many counties see the potential for fires as a ticking time bomb.

Tarrant, Wise, Hood Counties and others have fireworks bans in place too.  But many people buying the fireworks say they'll use their own judgment.

"We have an area that's really safe to shoot in," said Terry Nidecken.  "It's a large property and so we monitor the whole area."

Police and sheriff's departments say they'll boost patrols looking for people ringing in the New Year with an illegal bang.
