Fort Worth Passes 2010 Budget, Cuts Dozens Of Jobs

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Fort Worth passed its 2010 budget today. Here are some key facts:

The city will lose 183 positions, which is about 50 fewer than first anticipated.

85 of those positions are vacant, 56 will be layoffs and 42 will be voluntary separation.

Employees being laid off will receive their notices wednesday, Sept. 16.  Their last day of work will be Nov. 6.  Laid off workers will be given preferential consideration for city vacancies for one year after their layoff date.

Furloughs
Remaining employees will be required to take eight days of furlough, which equates to roughly a 3% pay cut. The city is also examining reducing benefits and is increasing its group health insurance rates by 12%.

Fee increase
There is also a fee increase effective Jan. 2010 on water rates, which will increase the average residential bill by $2.10 a month.

The city will also implement a 5% late fee on utility bill effective three days after the due date.
