Fort Worth Looking To Develop Along Rail Lines

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Fort Worth's Trinity Railway Express has seen daily ridership grow by 2,500 riders a day over last year.

As the city works to expand its rail services, it's also trying to find a way for future growth to grow green and deal with congestion. Fort Worth officials appointed a 16-member committee to look into using modern street cars in downtown to ease congestion.

The city is also working to get even more people on rails. Thursday, Fort Worth leaders took a trip to see how the city's future might be built around trains.

Mayor Mike Moncrief, council members and transportation advisors visited Mockingbird Station in Dallas. The stop along the DART Rail Line offers stores, entertainment restaurants and apartments all in one area.

Fort Worth leaders say they don't mind borrowing ideas from Dallas, especially considering DART reported $3 billion worth of development along their lines.
