Sewage Spill Kills Fish, Stinks Up Fort Worth Park

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― If you've been to Buffalo Ridge Park in Fort Worth today, you probably noticed something's not right there.

It's the smell.

Jeff Yarborough noticed it. "It smelled really sewery," he said. "Pungent smell, and I noticed a bunch of little fish floating."

A nearby sewer line broke, spilling sewage into the creek and killing fish there.

Fort Worth city crews say they're looking for the blockage that caused the break. Once they find and clear it, they say they will fix the problem.

They're already working to pump the sewage from the creek back into the sewer system.

The city says people who live along Big Fossil Creek in Haltom City and who plan to use Buffalo Ridge Park should stay out of the water and keep their pets out, too. The city also says the spill does not threaten drinking water supplies.
