Boy's Leg Cut Off By Train In Fort Worth

Family Speaks About The Incident

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The family of a seven-year-old boy whose left leg was severed below the knee by a train in Fort Worth Sunday says he's shown amazing courage since the accident.

Anthony Bell has already had two surgeries and faces a third Thursday. Video games have helped take his mind off the reason he's in the hospital.

The seven-year-old is competitive. He loves football. As a tight end, he was player of the year for the Diamond Hill Cowboys.

"Thinking he's really kind of realizing what's going on," said his mother, Montricia Johnson. "He was playing and hit his leg on the wheel. I guess and it ran over it… But I don't know how true it is."

Johnson says the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train had come to a stop. Anthony's leg was caught when it started rolling again.

Union Pacific, which owns the yard, says trains stop sometimes when they're allowing another train to pass or switch tracks.

Anthony was at his coach's girlfriend's house in Fort Worth when it happened. Johnson refuses to press charges.

"We just do everything together. She's like family," she said.

For now, the Johnson family is rallying around Anthony. Surgeons just removed his knee.

"His dad asked him if he's as strong as Superman. He said, 'I'm stronger than Superman.' That meant a lot to me because that let me know he's being strong and he's fighting it," Johnson said. "But he'll be up and at it in no time. I got faith in him."
