2 Fort Worth Women Robbed Inside Their Garage
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ―
Selina Sanchez and her mother Eva Rodriguez are warning everyone they know to stay alert. This after they came face to face with an armed robber in their own garage.
"We screamed really hard, because he surprised us," Rodriguez said.
"I was so scared," said Sanchez. "I could not stop crying maybe for an hour."
It happened at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday in a subdivision off Basswood Boulevard in north Fort Worth.
The two pulled into their garage and got out of their car.
"I just got all of my stuff, like my school work," said Sanchez.
Rodriquez said the garage door was coming down when a guy wearing a ski mask ran up with some sort of rifle.
"He pulled out the gun and was like, 'Give me your money!' and wouldn't stop yelling," said Sanchez.
"He said, 'Give me the money! Give me the money!' and I said, 'Yes, yes!" said Rodriquez.
"Then he pointed it at my mom's head," said Sanchez.
Sanchez, 15, ran back into the car while her mother complied with the robber's demands.
"His paper bag was torn, so the money fell on the floor. Then I have to pick it up," said Rodriguez. "He was saying, 'Put the whole thing; put the whole thing.'"
Rodriquez had just cashed her paycheck, so the robber made off with all of her hard earned money.
"That's like maybe a little more than half our bills we have to pay," said Sanchez.
"At the time, I just said, 'Go, go,'" said Rodriquez.
Ironically, the family used to park on the street in front of their house. But their car was broken into twice, so they thought the garage would be safer.
"It was just terrifying," said Sanchez.
To protect yourself, police say you should check your rearview mirror often while driving home to make sure no one is following you. If you believe you are being followed, drive to a police station. Don't go home.
If you have an automatic opener, close your garage door and make sure no one is in your garage before you get out of your car.
