Garland Couple Charged In Baby's Death

GARLAND (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Garland police filed charges today against the parents of a missing 4-month-old girl who is presumed to be dead.

28-year-old Selvin Alfredo Ortiz is charged with capital murder and 30-year-old Sonia Ruiz is charged with tampering with evidence in the death of Prisma Ortiz Ruiz.

The mother is in the Dallas County jail.  The father is believed to be in El Salvador.

Police say the child was killed in August of 2006 and her body dumped near Lake Worth.

Investigators tell CBS 11 News Ruiz has admitted dumping the girl's body.

Even though the girl died in 2006, police say, authorities were not notified until August, 2008 and there was no record of her death or disappearance before that.

They searched the area several times but have not found the girl's body. Investigators say they got a tip in August about the possible murder.
