Garland PD: Hit & Run Driver Flees Scene On Foot

GARLAND (CBS 11 News) ― A hit and run accident that took the life of a Garland mother early Tuesday morning remains unsolved.

Wednesday, the family is speaking about their loss and hope for an arrest.

Since the accident, it has been like a revolving door of support at the family's house. But the support still does not ease the pain or answer why

Tsigereda Kassayes, 45, was on her way to work early Tuesday morning.

Police say the driver of a Dodge failed to yield when turning left, striking Kassayes' car almost head on. Her car flipped over.

Police say the driver in the Dodge ran off on foot, not stopping to render aid to Kassayes.

Kassayes' life ended minutes after arriving at the hospital.

It was only Wednesday afternoon that the family says they had the courage to tell her nine-year-old son what had happened.

They had sent him to a friend's house since the accident.

"The dream that they had - that they will put their kids together in college, that dream is shattered," said Solomon Belay, a close family friend.

Police continue to look for the suspect, who could be charged with a third-degree felony for failing to stop and render aid.
