Cops Search For Baby Believed To Have Been Killed
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Garland police are trying to unravel a mystery. They know a baby was born, but then she disappeared.
The bizarre and disturbing scenario that brought police and search dogs to Grand Prairie Friday morning began with a tip to Garland police last August.
Working with the family, police determined a baby girl was born at a Garland hospital in March of 2006. For reasons they're still trying to fathom, the baby was killed soon after and the body was disposed.
"The baby's death--and we think it well may be a murder--took place sometime in probably early to mid-August," said Officer Joe Harn, Garland police spokesman
Officers searched for her body near Joe Pool Lake Friday morning. Most of the shoreline is not developed. It's wild and overgrown and an easy place to dump or bury a tiny, innocent body.
Harn won't reveal the name of the baby or the cause of death. The mother is still in North Texas.
"The father of the baby is not in this country now, and certainly that's going to be a person of interest to us," he said. They believe the father is somewhere in Central or South America.
For now, they're making a case to take to the district attorney.
