FW Neighbors Want More From Gas Drilling
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Neighbors in some areas of Fort Worth are upset over an agreement with energy companies currently drilling for natural gas.
The community action group ACORN rallied residents in low-income neighborhoods. The neighbors claim they're not getting their fair share of money for drilling by companies such as Chesapeake.
Drills are currently searching for natural gas in several Fort Worth neighborhoods.
"The community is comprised of older residents who were not really knowledgeable about the deal. So no, they did not get their fair share," said Rhonda Prestidge, ACRON representative.
The neighbors who gathered at Tuesday night's meeting say they're also concerned that natural gas drilling will pose safety and environmental hazards to their homes.
