FW Dog Fighting For Its Life After Being Poisoned

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― A Fort Worth dog is fighting for her life, and police believe animal cruelty is to blame.

It's going to cost thousands of dollars to help the dog get better, but her owner can't afford it. So Lourdes Radelat brought Mia back to her home on the 7200 block of Crossbow Ct. to try and nurse her back to health.

"We don't know what will happen in the next 72 hours," said Radelat. She said she is afraid she will lose her one and a half-year-old giant schnauzer in the next few days.

"I knew something was wrong immediately because of the way she was laying."

Tuesday night the 54-year-old let Mia outside to eat. Forty five minutes later, she called the dog back inside, but Mia didn't come.

"She was pretty much trying to get up for me, but couldn't," said Radelat.

She was lying lifeless in the middle of the yard with pain in her eyes. "They're just turned inside out," said Radelat.

When Radelat took Mia to the vet, they told her it was "definitely had some kind of poison... They suspect it to be Tylenol."

The same thing happened last June to Radelat's giant schnauzer Ramadan. He died, and Radelat still keeps his ashes.

Radelat believes someone is purposely poisoning her dogs.

"They're just helpless creatures. To me, they're like my kids," she said.

Unfortunately, she can't afford the $3,500 in shots Mia needs to get better. "I can't even afford to leave her at the clinic for the 72 hours she should be on the IV," she said.

For now, Radelat said she is hoping for a miracle and praying the poisoning stops.

Anyone who has information on the incident should call the Fort Worth Police Department.
