Two North Texas Cities Honor One Fallen Soldier

GREENVILLE/TERRELL (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The body of a North Texas soldier who died in Afghanistan has returned home, and two local towns showed their support for the soldier's grieving family Wednesday.

The parents of Army Staff Sergeant Shawn Henry McNabb were honored by the outpouring of support from the towns of Greenville and Terrell after McNabb's death in combat.

"My son... he touched many lives.  He pushed people to excel and do better" says Shawn's father David McNabb.

McNabb was among 14 people killed in a helicopter crash October 25.  On Wednesday his body was returned to Majors Field, the airport in Greenville.  The body was then taken by procession to Terrell.

The McNabbs lived in Greenville for 22 years, David McNabb worked there as a firefighter.  The family moved to Terrell while Shawn was still in school.  He graduated from Terrell High School in 2003.

Ann McNabb says the outpouring of support for her son from both cities was comforting.  "It's just such an honor to be his parents. Again we didn't know what a tremendous man he was.  We only knew what he knew and now people are telling us about this man that was bigger than life."

A funeral service will full military honors is scheduled for Friday morning in Terrell.  Staff Sergeant McNabb will be buried at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
