Rise In Underage Drinking Parties Concerns Police

Highland Park Police Bust Up Weekend Party

HIGHLAND PARK (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Highland Park Police are concerned at an increasing number of underage drinking parties they're seeing in 2008 compared to previous years.

"It's summer, they're beginning to pick up a little bit," explains Det. Randy Millican of the Highland Park Police Department.

"But we've noticed that we've had more this year than we've had in previous years and we're concerned about that."

Eight party attendees were given citations for underage drinking when some 60 teenagers were caught at a gathering the night of Friday, May 16th.

This week, a man who fled the party -- 18-year-old Charles Keeble – was  charged with evading arrest.

Millican says it was cited police were forced to track him down.

Parties like these concern police.

"Large gatherings of young adults, large amounts of alcohol  …  we're not talking a few beers each. We're talking about multiple kegs and liquor. That concerns us that they're, one, drinking it and two, that they are getting out on our roadways."

While Millican says he's noticed an increase in Highland Park, he believes it's happening in most communities in North Texas.
